Welcome to The Crafting House!
I love crafting–sewing and crocheting are my specialties–and it’s become more of an obsession than I care to admit!
I find myself perusing the internet, especially Etsy, looking for new and lovely patterns to create beautiful pieces for my friends and family, and to offer in my Etsy shop–Two Sparrows Boutique.
My current project is something I haven’t done before, and I’ll admit, I’m finding it a bit challenging! I’ve decided to recover my outdoor patio furniture cushions. The previous covers were quite sun-faded, not unexpected since the set was a wedding gift. Seven years and counting as of April 22nd!
I chose a simple, yet lovely, navy canvas to compliment my existing patterned throws. I managed to finish my first one last weekend, so there are three more to go. I think I will be working on these for a few more weekends to come, because between raising my two beautiful children, being a caring partner to my husband, and stocking and running my Etsy shop, I seem to have very little time left for personal projects and me-time. I know I’m not the only one in this situation, am I right?!
If you love crafting as much as I do, follow my blog for new tutorials, fresh crafting ideas, and everything handmade.
So, on that note….let’s get started!

This is my most recent creation, available in my Etsy shop for purchase.
I absolutely love these felted slippers with their cute little ballet flat style, the toe straps, and the lovely honey colored buttons.
These were hand felted, yes, you read that right–I did not use a washing machine. I did it the old fashioned way, using a little elbow grease, some soap, lots of warm water and cool rinses.
I have to admit, I have used a machine for felting in the past, but I am MUCH happier with the results of my hand felting.

I love the look of leg warmers for little girls. My daughter just received her first pair of handmade leggies from her mommy, and she’ll have many more to come.
They turned out so cute that I decided I wanted to share instructions for making them. This is a pattern created by me, actually, I didn’t use a pattern at all–it was all free style crocheting! I decided to embellish them with leaves and flowers at the bottom cuff, and you can do the same if you like, or just leave them as-is without embellishments.
This tutorial is untested, so if there are any errors, please comment and I will modify the tutorial. Please do not redistrubute this tutorial, or sell finished items. This tutorial is intended for personal use only.
MATERIALS: I used an I hook, and Caron Simply Soft (light worsted) yarn in a cream color.
SIZING: These will comfortably fit girls between the ages of 2 and 8 years
Top Cuff:
* Chain 6
ROW 1: Sc in 2nd loop from hook , and in each remaining chain. Turn (5 sts)
ROW 2: Ch 1. Sc in back loop only in each st. Turn (5 sts)
ROWS 3 – 26: Repeat row 2.
LEG SECTION: You will be working in rounds without joining except for in Round 1. Place a stitch marker if you need to.
ROUND 1: Turn your work so that you will now be working along the leg portion of the warmer. (Don’t worry about the open seam of the cuff, that will be sl st together at the end.) Ch1 and sc in each st so that you end up with 26 sts. Join with sl st.
ROUND 2: Hdc in each sc around (26 sts)
ROUNDS 3-26: Repeat Round 2
ROUND 27: Hdc in each st around. Join last stich to first st of previous round with sl st.
ROUND 28: Ch 1. Sc in each hdc around. Join with sl.
Bottom Cuff:
You will be working perpendicular to the leg portion of the warmer, sl st every other row to every other st in the leg portion (13 sl st attach the bottom cuff to the leg portion of the warmer.)
Ch 6
ROW 1: Sc in first ch and each ch to end. Turn (5 sts)
ROW 2: Ch 1. Sc in back loop only in each st, attach with sl st to leg portion, making sure to skip one stitch of the leg portion between joins, otherwise you will have too many rows in the cuff. Turn. (5 sts)
ROWS 3 – 26: Repeat rows 1 and 2 until you reach the end. Sl st cuff seam together.
And there you have it! Lovely leggies for your little girl!
